There are so many excursions in Dubai that they can easily eat up your entire trip budget — and it’s just as easy to overpay for things you could see yourself. This guide is a map of every format: from the hop-on bus and the Abu Dhabi day trip to a helicopter flight, a skydive and a dive into the deepest pool in the world. We’ll break down what it costs in 2026, what’s included in the price, and how to book without overpaying. Each direction has its own detailed write-up with a link.
What Kinds of Excursions Are There
It’s easiest to sort every tour by what you want out of it: a city overview, a trip beyond the city, an experience from the water or from the air, adrenaline, or the underwater world. Here’s a comparison of the formats with a price benchmark:
| Format | Duration | Price (benchmark, 2026) | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| City tour / Big Bus | 1 hour to a full day | Big Bus from ~205 AED/day; guided tour from ~$40/person | A first look at the city |
| Desert safari | 6–7 hours | from ~150 AED/person | Adventure and sunset lovers |
| Abu Dhabi day trip | full day | from ~$54/person (group) | For sights outside Dubai |
| Boat trip / yacht | 1–3 h (shared) | shared from ~60 AED/person; charter from ~400 AED/h | Skyscrapers from the water |
| Helicopter flight | 12–40 minutes | from ~710 AED/person | Panorama of the Palm and Marina from above |
| Skydive | 3–4 h at the drop zone | from ~1,899 AED (desert) / 2,199 (Palm) | Adrenaline and record-worthy shots |
| Diving / Deep Dive Dubai | 1–4 hours | try dive from ~400 AED; Deep Dive from ~600 AED | Underwater experiences |
The prices here are the lower bound, the “from.” The final total depends on the season, the operator and how the tour is put together, so in each individual guide we break the range down in more detail.
City Tours and Trips Out
If this is your first trip, it makes sense to start with the big picture. A city tour of Dubai shows you both the old town with its markets and abra crossing and Downtown with the Burj Khalifa; you can choose between the Big Bus with an English audio guide, a group tour, or a private guide. It’s worth setting aside a separate day for a trip to Abu Dhabi with the Sheikh Zayed Mosque and the Louvre — it’s the neighbouring emirate, an hour and a half away.
The classic nature outing is a desert safari with dune bashing, dinner at a camp and the sunset. It’s the one format we spun off into its own full write-up earlier, so here just keep it on your list of options.
Experiences from the Water and the Air
Dubai looks its best from an unusual angle. From the water, you get it on a boat trip or yacht rental around the Marina with a run out to Palm Jumeirah and Atlantis: there’s a budget shared cruise sold by the seat and a private charter with a captain by the hour.
From the air, two formats work, each with a different spirit. A helicopter flight is the calm, scenic option, 12–40 minutes with a panorama of the palm and the skyscrapers. A skydive in tandem with an instructor is all about adrenaline: freefall from four kilometres above Palm Jumeirah or above the desert.
The Underwater World
A story of its own is diving in Dubai. You can start with a try dive without certification, take a PADI course, or descend into Deep Dive Dubai — the deepest pool in the world (60 metres) with a flooded “city.” The best sea dive sites aren’t in Dubai itself but on the east coast, near Fujairah — that’s covered in a separate guide too.
How to Book and What to Watch in the Price
Excursions are most often booked through aggregators with a familiar interface and payment — Sputnik8, Tripster, GetYourGuide — or directly with operators and English-speaking guides. The payment model varies: some tours run on a “no prepayment” basis, settled on the spot, while others take a deposit of around 20% at booking with the balance paid to the guide.
When comparing prices, don’t look at the number but at what stands behind it:
- whether the transfer is included from the hotel and back (for far-flung hotels there’s often a surcharge);
- entry tickets to attractions — in Abu Dhabi, tickets to the Louvre are usually paid separately;
- what the tour includes — on a yacht that’s drinks and fuel for the standard route, on a skydive photos and video come as an add-on;
- cancellation terms — they’re spelled out on the specific excursion’s listing; there’s no single rule.
When Is the Best Time to Go
The most comfortable time is from October to April: not too hot, and every format is running, from the desert to the flights. In summer, daytime activities shift to early morning or evening, but this is the season when discounts appear and there are fewer queues.
