Description
The Etihad Museum is devoted to the founding of the United Arab Emirates and stands right beside the historic Union House, where the rulers of the seven emirates signed the agreement forming the federation in 1971. The striking building, with a curved roof shaped like a manuscript scroll and seven columns representing the pens used to sign the document, opened to visitors in 2017.
Inside are interactive pavilions, archive photographs, documents, personal belongings of the founding fathers and multimedia installations tracing the country's path from 1968 to 1974. It is one of the best places in Dubai to understand how desert emirates came together into a single modern state.
Tip: Take the audio guide or join a tour — the exhibition gains a great deal from context about the events of 1971.
