Al Lahbab Dunes (Big Red)

Big Red (Al Lahbab Dunes)

Coordinates: 24.827, 55.56

The famous red Al Lahbab dunes by the road towards Hatta — the prime spot for jeep safaris, sandboarding and quad bikes.

Description

The Al Lahbab dunes, known as Big Red, are tall dunes of a distinctive reddish colour about an hour's drive from Dubai along the road towards Hatta. This is one of the most popular spots for desert adventures: almost all jeep safaris come here.

Besides dune bashing in 4x4s, you can go sandboarding, quad biking and dune buggying here. The best time to visit is late morning or sunset, when the heat eases and the light makes the sand especially red.

Tip: Take a tour with a transfer from the city — there is no public transport here, and it is about an hour's drive.
