Dubai Courts hear civil, criminal and family cases and process legal documents, including the attestation of powers of attorney and marriage contracts.

More

Dubai Courts hear civil, criminal, commercial and family cases and consist of three instances: the Court of First Instance, the Court of Appeal and the Court of Cassation. People come here for a wide range of situations: property and monetary disputes, labour claims, inheritance cases, divorce proceedings and personal-status matters. A separate important area is notarial and attestation services: drawing up and certifying powers of attorney for the sale of property, banking transactions or representation, as well as attesting marriage contracts and certificates.

Many procedures are available online through the Dubai Courts electronic services system and the Dubai Courts app: you can submit documents, draw up, renew and check powers of attorney, track case status and obtain approvals remotely with UAE Pass login. To arrange a power of attorney or attest documents, prepare your passport and Emirates ID, as well as the text of the document itself; for marriage procedures additional certificates and the presence of the parties are required. Services are provided at Dubai Courts centres and through accredited government service centres, so for many of them it is convenient to book in advance or apply online.

Frequently asked questions

How do I issue a power of attorney (POA) in Dubai?+

A power of attorney is prepared according to UAE requirements and certified by a notary licensed by the Dubai Courts. Certification can also be done online via the e-Notary system with video identity verification. If the power of attorney is to be used abroad, additional attestation by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs is required.

Can documents be certified online?+

Yes, the Dubai Courts offer electronic notary services (e-Notary); the certification of powers of attorney and some documents is done remotely via video call. Have your valid Emirates ID, passport and the ready text of the document on hand.

How do I register a marriage in Dubai?+

A civil marriage is valid for non-Muslims: the application is submitted online via the Dubai Courts portal, and at least one of the partners must have a UAE residence visa. Prepare passports, Emirates ID and civil status documents (foreign documents with an Arabic translation).
