Dubai Public Prosecution investigates criminal cases and decides on referring them to court. After a victim files a report with the police, the case is within a short time forwarded to the prosecutor, who conducts the investigation, questions the parties, presses charges and determines the fate of the case before it is heard by the court. It is appropriate to come here if you have become a victim in a criminal case (fraud, theft, threats, damage, etc.), have been summoned to give testimony, or are involved in a case and want to learn how it is progressing.
The easiest way to file a criminal complaint itself in Dubai is online through the Dubai Police app (criminal services section → filing a complaint) — your Emirates ID number and email address are required; from there the case is forwarded to the prosecution. You can check the status and details of a case through the prosecution's online portal in the case-inquiry section, specifying the case number or Emirates ID. If you are summoned in person, bring your passport, Emirates ID and all documents related to the case (contracts, correspondence, receipts, certificates). In criminal cases it is recommended to engage a local lawyer, and attendance when summoned by the prosecution at the appointed time is mandatory.
