Emirates ID (ICA)
Federal Authority for Identity & Citizenship
The Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) issues the Emirates ID, the identity document mandatory for all UAE residents.
More
The Emirates ID is the mandatory identity document for all UAE citizens and residents, issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP, formerly ICA). The card is needed for practically everything: opening a bank account, renting accommodation, getting a phone connection, accessing government offices and clinics, and its number is linked to your visa and medical services. People turn to ICP to issue an Emirates ID for the first time, renew it (usually together with the renewal of a residence visa), replace it when lost or damaged, and update their data.
You can apply and pay online — through the icp.gov.ae portal (ICP Smart Services) or the UAEICP app with UAE Pass login; visa and Emirates ID status are also checked there. After submitting the application, as a rule one visit is required to provide biometrics (fingerprints and a photo) at an accredited ICP or Amer centre — this is done on a first-come, first-served basis, and at some centres advance booking is also available. The finished card is delivered to the address provided via Emirates Post. The validity of the Emirates ID coincides with the validity of the visa, so they should be renewed in sync.
