Al Murar district

Al Murar

Coordinates: 25.275, 55.309

An old, dense area of Deira with markets, mosques and traditional small-scale trade.

About the district

Al Murar is one of the old, densely built-up areas of Deira on the eastern shore of Dubai Creek. It is a multinational neighbourhood with narrow streets, small shops, mosques and cafes, where the atmosphere of traditional trading Dubai is preserved.

The area is historically linked to small-scale trade and crafts: there are many shops selling fabrics, spices, household goods and inexpensive food. Al Murar lives the everyday life of local communities and has barely been touched by the glossy development of new Dubai.

Al Murar is the "real" Deira without the tourist gloss: tight streets, shops, mosques and flows of people. People come here for the atmosphere of an old trading city and affordable shopping, rather than for sights in the usual sense.
