Dubai Municipality is responsible for urban services: landscaping, sanitary and environmental control, food safety, construction control and the issuance of permits for building, fit-out and the handover of properties. Property owners, contractors and designers come here for permits and certificates, while residents and businesses come regarding the quality of food in establishments, the cleanliness of streets, pest control and environmental complaints. It is also where the renovation and remodelling of commercial and residential premises are approved.
Most services have been moved online: building permits are arranged through the Dubai BPS (Building Permit System) and the e-Services portal at dm.gov.ae, while many everyday services are available through the Dubai Municipality apps and the city-wide Dubai Now. Through the app and the portal you can submit an application, track its status, pay fees and book visits, which saves a trip to the office. For submission you usually need an Emirates ID, property documents and (for construction) design documentation from a licensed consultant. The head office is located in the Deira area, on Baniyas Road (Al Rigga).
